A Chinese restaurant has been forced to close after an investigation found that the ‘roast duck’ it was serving was actually derived from dead street pigeons.
There are plenty of adventurous eaters out there who are willing to try almost anything, including the Swedish delicacy surströmming that causes a lot of people to vomit.
Sometimes, you only need to see the way something is made for it to put you off for life, and it looks like duck pancake lovers might be next on the list.
Regulars at a Chinese restaurant in Madrid may never want to eat crispy duck again after discovering what they were really eating, as part of a horrifying police investigation which has seen the eatery close down and the owners placed under investigation.
The Jin Gu restaurant, in the Usera district of the Spanish capital, was raided by police late last month and what they found was pretty disgusting.
Footage showed bowls full of plucked and cooked pigeon. While wood pigeon can be a delicacy in some upper class restaurants, you wouldn’t want to have one snatched from the street and put straight on your plate.
That’s something even the raw meat and milk consuming gym bros wouldn’t consider. Maybe.

Footage also showed gnarled strips of meat being hung from clothes horses which simply cannot be sanitary.
Local media also reported that unlabelled and undated meat and fish were allegedly kept in freezers that did not work, while police say there were also cockroaches and rat traps strewn across the kitchen, which is perhaps worthy of a food hygiene rating in the minuses.
There were also reportedly no thermometers to measure the temperatures of storage areas, which can obviously lead to bacteria, while the cookware they used was also very rusted, according to police.

The illegal sea cucumbers (Policia Muncipal de Madrid)
Sea cucumbers, which are the forbidden by strict marine laws, were also just one of several illegal items discovered at the restaurant, and the owners are now being investigated as police look to charge them with public health crimes as well as animal cruelty and consumer violation charges.
Street pigeons can obviously carry a lot of different diseases which hopefully will have been cooked off at the restaurant, but given their alleged shortcomings in other kitchen matters, I’m not sure how confident I’d be eating that.
Jin Gu currently has a 4.2-star rating on Google, with many positive reviews.
“The duck I think is a little dry and lots of bones, not that tasty,” one from five years ago reads.

A bride-to-be in America was allegedly ‘violently assaulted’ on her hen night and left hospitalised just weeks before her wedding day.
Stag dos and hen nights are notoriously messy affairs, but it’s usually the copious amounts of alcohol that leave attendees feeling worse for wear, rather than the alleged attack that an American woman suffered earlier this month.
Canada Rinaldi was celebrating her bachelorette party in Dallas in the early hours of Sunday March 23 when she reportedly attacked by a random man, according to her GoFundMe page.
The Oklahoma bride was reportedly forced to pay around $10,000 in medical expenses from the ambulance, hospital stay and ongoing care. Although the fundraiser, which has been set up by her friend, is seemingly going to be successful in paying those off, given that it stands at nearly $20,000 at the time of writing.

She reportedly suffered a concussion, a broken nose, three broken teeth, and eight stitches to her face, less than a month before her wedding, which is the nightmare scenario of any bride.
The GoFundMe page states: “Just 24 hours earlier, she had told us she was having ‘the best trip of her life.’ That happiness was ripped away from her in an instant, turning it into the most terrifying and traumatising night she’s ever experienced.
“She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and treated for her injuries. But because the man who did this hasn’t been caught, therefore he isn’t being held responsible.”
However, on Friday, March 28, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) confirmed on its website that 27-year-old Trevon Woodards had been arrested by the Bedford Police Department in connection with an aggravated assault.
The suspect is accused of having ‘assaulted two victims’ in the 2600 block of Floyd Street, located in the Deep Ellum neighbourhood, before 2am on March 23.
This fits in with the timings of Canada’s alleged attack, although she confessed to People magazine that she ‘doesn’t remember the attack.’

Medical bills in America are notoriously high (Getty Stock)
Unfortunately, medical bills in America are more than we Brits can often comprehend, such as the man who was charged around $13,000 after donating a kidney.
And even though the injuries clearly weren’t her fault, there is no guarantee that Canada will be fully reimbursed for her significant bills, even if her alleged attacker is found guilty of the crime.
The GoFundMe adds that Canada ‘is now trying to heal—not only physically, but emotionally and financially—when she should be counting down the days to her wedding.’
Fingers crossed Canada can make a full recovery ahead of her big day next month.

German police made a wild discovery when they raided a pizzeria in the city of Düsseldorf, specifically with item ‘number 40’ on their menu.
Criminal director Michael Graf von Moltke revealed that police were tipped off in March by food inspectors who thought that something seemed a little bit off.
He spoke to reporters on Monday (21 October), and revealed that drug squad officers had been observing the restaurant since then and discovered why one of the pizzas was so popular among customers, according to German news agency dpa.

It may be one of the most bizarre criminal stories of the year so far, and one that almost seems fictional, but Düsseldorf police actually investigated and apprehended those responsible for the crime after a raid.
But it didn’t come out of nowhere either, as when the police eventually made their way to the apartment of the pizzeria manager, he decided to throw a bag of drugs out the window, which the authorities said ‘fell right into the arms of the police officers’.
It turned out that the restaurant owner had been selling pizza number 40 with a special side order… but it wasn’t a garlic dip, it was cocaine instead.
The 36-year-old was released from custody after a few days, he reopened his business and continued to do the exact same thing with number 40, described by von Moltke as ‘one of the best-selling pizzas’.
His bounty was made up of 1.6kg of cocaine, 400g of cannabis and €268,000 (US $290,378) in cash.
Instead of arresting him straight away though, police took the chance to go beyond and investigate his supply chain and after some weeks, approximately 150 officers busted a massive drug ring in western Germany, where Düsseldorf is located.

Police arrested three suspects, which included the head of the operation, who was just 22.
As well as this, businesses and homes of another 12 suspects were raided in their attempts to bring the operation down.
During their numerous raids, they discovered two cannabis plantations in the nearby towns of Mönchengladbach and Solingen, which featured 300 and 60 plants each.
Not only did they find drugs, but stabbing weapons along with some cash and luxury watches.
Following these discoveries, the pizzeria manager tried to flee abroad, but was arrested and is currently in custody.
In accordance with Germany privacy rules, none of the suspects’ names were released, while police did not reveal how much the ‘special order’ at the pizzeria actually cost.

The shocking assassination of a New York CEO is being investigated by police as they are offering $10,000 (£7,860) to anyone with information.
Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was brutally killed outside the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue in Midtown Attachment by a masked person with a gun who, according to New York City Police Department (NYPD) commissioner Jessica Tisch, ‘lay in wait for several minutes’ at around 6:46 am local time, on Wednesday (4 December), NBC News reports.
Thompson, 50, was shot at least once in the back and once in the calf before he was taken to hospital and was pronounced dead.

CCTV footage of the shooting has circulated online (CNN)
With the help of an e-bike in Central Park, the assassin fled the scene, as a spokesperson for Lyft announced that police informed them it wasn’t from their CitiBike program.
‘Deny’, ‘depose’ and ‘defend’ were also engraved on the live rounds and shell casings left behind from the silent gun.
Commissioner Tisch said: “Many people passed the suspect. But he appeared to wait for his intended target.”
“From watching the video, it does seem that he’s proficient in the use of firearms as he was able to clear the malfunctions pretty quickly,” NYPD chief of detectives Joseph Kenny added.
Now, the shooter was pictured via CCTV at a Starbucks just minutes before the attack took place, according to police.
In the image and the CCTV footage, the suspected shooter was wearing a black mask to cover their face, along with a grey backpack.
This comes after a mobile phone was found in an alley which was part of the person’s escape route, Sky News reports.

Sky News further reports that police have also searched Thompson’ hotel room at the Marriott nearby, as well as interviewing colleagues and looking through his social media.
Thompson’s wife Paulette told NBC News that he’d said ‘there were some people that had been threatening him’, however, the police chief of Minnesota, Eric Werner – where the couple lived – said they had not received reports of any threats made against the 50-year-old.
Parent company, UnitedHealth Group Inc, said: “Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him.
“We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.”
“This does not appear to be a random act of violence,” added Mayor Eric Adams, after Gov. Kathy Hochul said the shooting was ‘horrific’
“Our hearts are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Thompson and we are committed to ensuring the perpetrator is brought to justice,” Hochul said in a statement
